This notice explains what personal data this site processes, why and for how long. If anything is unclear, write to us.
Who is the data controller
The data controller is Giuseppe Masitto (individual), Via dei Mille 8, 98070 Capri Leone (ME), Italy, reachable at giuseppe@masitto.net. For any request about your data (access, correction, deletion, objection) write to that address.
What data we process, why and for how long
- Technical server logs. Like any website, the server records the IP address, date and time, the requested page and the browser used. They are needed to run the site and protect it from abuse. They are kept for 14 days. Legal basis: legitimate interest in security and operation of the service.
- Visit statistics. We count visits with our own system, with no external services. For every page view we store the page, the date, the site you came from (domain only), the country (inferred by Cloudflare), the type of device, the browser, the operating system and an anonymous random code held in a cookie. We do not store your IP address, we do not identify you and we do not profile you. We do not count people who turned on "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control", who turned statistics off in the settings, or who log in to the editorial panel. The data is anonymous and is kept over time, with no expiry date. Legal basis: legitimate interest in understanding which content is read.
- Account. If you sign up we process your email, username, display name, preferred language and password, which is stored only in encrypted form and cannot be read by anyone. They are needed to let you log in and comment. We do not verify the email address and we do not send emails. You can delete your account at any time from the profile page; if you choose "Remember me" we also store, for each device, the browser type and usage dates, and you can sign devices out from your profile.
- Comments. We store the comment text, the date and the name you choose (optional when commenting anonymously). To limit spam and abuse we also keep an anonymous, non-reversible fingerprint of the IP address: the real address is not stored with the comment.
- Messages from the contact form. If you write to us through the "Contact" form we store the message, your email address, your name (optional), the date and an anonymous, non-reversible fingerprint of the IP address, used only to limit abuse. They are needed to reply to you and are deleted after 12 months. We do not send automatic emails: messages are read from the editorial panel. Legal basis: your request.
- Stories sent by readers. If you send us a story through the "Tell us your story" form we store the text, the title, the pseudonym you want to be credited with (optional), your email address (optional, only to reply to you), the date and an anonymous, non-reversible fingerprint of the IP address, used only to limit abuse. They are needed to evaluate the story and, if we publish it, to publish it without names of people or companies and with the chosen pseudonym. They are deleted after 12 months; a published story stays on the blog. Legal basis: your request.
- Abuse protection. To prevent repeated login or submission attempts we keep, for a few days, counters tied to an anonymous fingerprint of the IP or of the identifier used.
Cookies
The site only uses first-party cookies. We do not use third-party, profiling or advertising cookies.
blogsid: session. Created only when you log in, sign up or submit a comment or a form. Lasts at most 7 days.blogrm: "Remember me". Created only if you tick the box at login. Lasts 30 days and is deleted on logout.blogvid: statistics. Holds an anonymous random code and is used to tell first-time visitors from returning ones. Lasts 6 months.blog_notrack: remembers your choice not to be counted. Lasts 12 months.
Session and "Remember me" cookies are technical and need no consent. The statistics cookie is only used to produce aggregate data about this site, without cross-referencing other sites and without profiling you: we treat it as a cookie equivalent to technical ones and give you an easy way to turn it off at any time in the statistics settings.
Who we share data with
Data is neither sold nor handed over. Site traffic goes through Cloudflare, which acts as a distribution and protection network and processes technical connection data (including the country used in the statistics). Pages do not load fonts, scripts, images or analytics from other external services.
Your rights
You can ask for access to, correction or deletion of your data, restriction of processing, or object to it, by writing to the contact above. If you believe the processing breaks the law you can lodge a complaint with your data protection authority.
Story content
Stories do not mention names of people, clients or companies. If you think you are recognisable in a story, write to us and we will edit or remove it.
